The Gauteng Provincial Government has officially brought back the Nasi iSpani Youth Service Programme, opening 2,500 new opportunities for young people between the ages of 18 and 33. This initiative is not just about employment it is a stepping stone designed to give South African youth the skills, training, and experience they need to succeed in the job market.
A Programme with a Purpose
The relaunch of Nasi iSpani comes at a crucial time when thousands of young people are looking for meaningful opportunities. Who Can Apply?
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be aged 18–33
- Have at least Grade 11 (some positions may need higher qualifications)
- Hold a valid South African ID
- Reside in one of Gauteng’s regions: Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng, or West Rand
- Be free of a criminal record
- Be ready to commit to a two-year contract
Opportunities on Offer
Successful applicants will be placed in fields where South Africa needs more skilled workers. Training and job placements will be available in areas such as:
- Solar and electrical installation
- Plumbing and carpentry
- Mechanical and building services
- Air conditioning and refrigeration
- Welding and painting
- Boiler assistance and fitting & turning
- Data capturing, finance, HR, and procurement
These roles are carefully chosen to reduce dependence on external contractors and to build strong local skills that can benefit communities long after the programme ends.
