The Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) has officially opened applications for the 2026 Student Nurse Intake. This is an exciting opportunity for passionate individuals who are eager to pursue a Diploma in Nursing at one of GCON’s four reputable campuses:
- Ann Latsky Campus
- Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus
- SG Lourens Campus
- Bonalesedi Campus

Location: Gauteng Province, South Africa
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens permanently residing in Gauteng.
- Hold one of the following qualifications:
- Senior Certificate
- National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- Currently enrolled in Grade 12
- National Vocational Certificate (Primary Health)
Minimum Academic Requirements
For Senior Certificate holders:
- English HG (D) or SG (C)
- Biology HG (D) or SG (C)
- Mathematics HG (D) or SG (C)
- M-score: 17
For NSC (Matric) holders:
- English – Level 4
- Life Sciences – Level 4
- Mathematics – Level 4 OR Maths Literacy – Level 5
- APS: 27 or higher (Life Orientation counts 50%)
For National Vocational Certificate holders:
- 50% pass in all Fundamental Subjects (English FAL, Maths/Maths Literacy, Life Orientation)
- 60% pass in Vocational Subjects (SA Health Care System, Public Health, Human Body and Mind, Community Oriented Primary Care)
For Current Grade 12 learners:
- Must meet NSC requirements based on Grade 11 final results.

Recruitment and Selection
Shortlisted applicants will go through:
- A compulsory psychometric assessment
- Medical surveillance including a physical examination
- Verification of all submitted documents
Important: Completing all stages of the process does not guarantee admission.
Programme Commitments
Once accepted, candidates will need to:
- Sign a formal agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
- Attend all lectures at their allocated campus.
- Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics, which includes working shifts, weekends, nights, and public holidays.
