The Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) has officially opened applications for the 2026 Student Nurse Intake. This is an exciting opportunity for passionate individuals who are eager to pursue a Diploma in Nursing at one of GCON’s four reputable campuses:

Ann Latsky Campus
Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus
SG Lourens Campus
Bonalesedi Campus

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

To be considered, applicants must:

Be South African citizens permanently residing in Gauteng.
Hold one of the following qualifications:
- Senior Certificate
- National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- Currently enrolled in Grade 12
- National Vocational Certificate (Primary Health)

Minimum Academic Requirements

For Senior Certificate holders:

English HG (D) or SG (C)
Biology HG (D) or SG (C)
Mathematics HG (D) or SG (C)
M-score: 17

For NSC (Matric) holders:

English – Level 4
Life Sciences – Level 4
Mathematics – Level 4 OR Maths Literacy – Level 5
APS: 27 or higher (Life Orientation counts 50%)

For National Vocational Certificate holders:

50% pass in all Fundamental Subjects (English FAL, Maths/Maths Literacy, Life Orientation)
60% pass in Vocational Subjects (SA Health Care System, Public Health, Human Body and Mind, Community Oriented Primary Care)

For Current Grade 12 learners:

Must meet NSC requirements based on Grade 11 final results.

Recruitment and Selection

Shortlisted applicants will go through:

A compulsory psychometric assessment
Medical surveillance including a physical examination
Verification of all submitted documents

Programme Commitments

Once accepted, candidates will need to:

Sign a formal agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
Attend all lectures at their allocated campus.
Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics, which includes working shifts, weekends, nights, and public holidays.
