Kumba Iron Ore is proud to announce its 2026 bursary program, aimed at supporting students in various fields of study. This initiative is designed to help students manage the cost of education while gaining valuable industry experience through vacation work.
Who Can Apply
The bursary is open to students in their first to fourth year of study in the following fields:
- Industrial Engineering
- Data Analytics
- Surveying
- Mining Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Geology
- Geo-Technical Studies
- Occupational Hygiene
- Environmental Engineering
- Finance
- Human Resources
Applicants must submit valid identification, academic transcripts, and any necessary licenses. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Priority for Northern Cape Students
Kumba Iron Ore is committed to investing in the communities around its mining operations. Therefore, preference will be given to applicants who are residents of Northern Cape communities, aligning with the company’s focus on local economic growth, education, and skills development.
What the Bursary Covers
This bursary is comprehensive and can cover:
- Tuition fees
- Books and study materials
- Accommodation
- Paid vacation work
Vacation work will take place in the Northern Cape. Students will need to sign a Bursary Loan Agreement, and the bursary period will depend on the student’s current year of study.
Additional Requirements and Advantages
Applicants must provide:
- Proof of registration at a recognized institution
- Confirmation of provisional acceptance
- Academic transcripts
Optional but advantageous criteria include:
- A valid Code B driver’s license (light vehicle)
- Previous operational experience in the mining industry

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further assessments and interviews. If you do not hear back within four weeks after the closing date, it means your application was unsuccessful.
