SANRAL Scholarships 2026: Education Support for South African Learners (Grade 8–12)

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is once again opening doors for young learners through its SANRAL Scholarship Programme for 2026. This opportunity is aimed at learners in Grade 8 to Grade 12 across South Africa, giving them the chance to access quality education and support throughout their high school journey.

Applications open on 1 June 2025 and close on 30 September 2025.

About the SANRAL Scholarship Programme

SANRAL, well known for building and maintaining South Africa’s national road network, is also committed to nurturing future leaders. Through its scholarship initiative, the agency provides much-needed financial support to high school learners, regardless of the subjects they choose.

The programme is inclusive, encouraging learners with disabilities to apply. Its main purpose is not only to reduce financial pressure on families but also to inspire learners to pursue excellence and contribute positively to South Africa’s growth.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive support that goes beyond just tuition. The scholarship may cover:

  • School fees (including boarding fees where necessary)
  • Uniforms and sports gear
  • Books and stationery
  • Transport costs (where applicable)
  • Extra Maths and Science lessons
  • Registration fees
  • Access to the SANRAL Wellness Programme

This makes it one of the more complete scholarship packages available for high school learners in the country.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the SANRAL Scholarship Programme 2026, learners must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be enrolled at an endorsed South African school
  • Be in (or applying for) Grade 8 to Grade 12 in 2026
  • Have at least 60% overall average in school results
  • Have a combined household income of less than R550,000 per year

Applicants must also complete the online application form in full and upload all necessary documents.

Documents Needed for Application

When applying, learners must prepare and submit the following:

Motivation Letters

  • From parents/guardians
  • From the learner (a 2-page essay about yourself and why you want the scholarship)
  • From the school

Certified Copies

  • Latest school report (June results)
  • Learner’s ID document or birth certificate
  • Parents’/legal guardian’s ID documents
  • Proof of household income (not older than 3 months)

Additional (if applicable)

  • Death certificate of parent(s) / Social Services letter (if orphaned)
  • Proof of sibling registration at a tertiary institution
  • Divorce decree or marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Affidavit for single parents (from Home Affairs)
  • Proof of employment or unemployment

Important Notes

  • Funding is limited and only a certain number of scholarships will be awarded.
  • If you do not hear back by 31 January 2026, consider your application unsuccessful.
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
